Who we are
A gift so meaningful, it became a mission.
In 2014, my father turned 70. His health was declining and he felt he had little to celebrate. I wanted to show him he was wrong.
So I reached out to 50 of his closest people — the kids from his block in Brooklyn, his college roommates, his friends from chiropractic school, patients whose lives he’d saved, and of course his family. I asked them to share a memory and some photos to let my dad know what he meant to them.
The responses flooded in and they were beautiful. I collected them in my inbox, organized them and designed a hardcover book. It was a labor of love and it took me weeks of work.
When I gave it to my dad, he cried. I hadn’t seen him overcome with emotion like that since he coached me to the little league championship in 1987. He told me it was the best gift he’d ever gotten. And he realized there was so much about him to celebrate.
A few years later, I decided that, with the right tools, this kind of once-in-a-lifetime gift could be made by anyone. Those tools didn’t exist, so I set out to make them. That’s how PastPresent was born. Now, my mission is to make sure thousands of people know just how much they mean to those who love them.
